How It Works

The Rosemount 3408 uses 80GHz Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) and Smart Echo Supervision™ technologies, as well as smart algorithms to maximize measurement accuracy and reliability, even in small tanks and challenging fast-filling vessels.

FMCW technology deploys a continuous echo to maximize radar signal strength and produce a more robust and reliable measurement. And Smart Echo Supervision tracks all echoes, including those from obstructions vessels, and distinguishes them from the real product surface echo. This ensures the true product level is reliably and accurately reported.

Smart features help simplify each step in the product lifecycle.

Commission and configure remotely with Bluetooth® wireless technology. Powerful diagnostics provide early alerts when it is time to schedule maintenance and the on-board memory provides insight into the past 3 days of measurements. Echo curve profiles and alerts facilitate intuitive troubleshooting.

The Smart Echo Level Test enables proof-testing from the control room without changing the actual level and Smart Meter Verification provides a documented health check without interrupting the process.

With only two exchangeable electronic parts, complexity and inventory is reduced. The pre-calibrated cassette is suitable for all hazardous location approvals.

The Rosemount 3408 Level Transmitter is safety-certified to SIL2 according to IEC61508 for use in critical applications. It can be proof-tested remotely from the control room whilst left in-situ, keeping personnel safe. The Smart Echo Level Test lets you test in a real tank environment without changing the actual level, for a more convenient and safe test procedure.

Bluetooth® wireless technology lets operators communicate with the device remotely, keeping people off tank roofs.

The on-board diagnostics suite reassures users that processes are under control and that the device is ready to perform in any situation.
